Ryanair to launch Ego Air?

Ireland-based no-frills carrier Ryanair, known for their deep discounts on short-haul European flights, is looking to develop more long-haul options. The airline’s chief, Michael O’Leary is thinking about adding transatlantic flights to Ryanair’s European offerings.

The transatlantic branch of Ryanair would most likely operate under a different name. O’Leary told the press at a news conference recently that he was considering “something sexy like O’Leary Air or Ego Air.”

In order to launch the service, Ryanair will need to buy a new fleet of aircrafts capable of making the longer journeys. O’Leary said that he would wait before buying any planes since the price of aircrafts is currently quite high. He expects the price will fall 30- 40 per cent over the next year.

On long-haul flights, the transatlantic Ryanair intends to offer 80 per cent of the aircraft for economy seating and 20 per cent of the seats for business travelers. The airline would serve secondary airports if it did take off.
