Ryanair says it advertises fairly
Posted on: November 15th, 2007 by Jennifer JonesFaced with leaked news that the European Commission has been investigating the airline’s price advertising, Ryanair has publicly stated that it is confident the investigation will find its advertising practices to be fair.
The Commission is currently investigating the websites of around 200 airlines to discover if the added costs of taxes is clearly stated within the ticket fare. If the advertising is found to contain pricing irregularities, they could be shut down.
The report will be published this week but results have already been partially leaked to the press. Reuters suggests that the Commission will find irregularities in almost half of the websites it investigated although no specific websites have been named.
Ryanair has been criticized for inaccurate price advertising in the past. Last month a Spanish consumer watchdog found the airline to be at fault along with several other airlines operating in Spain.
Ryanair’s Head of Communications, Peter Sherrard said: “Ryanair hasn’t been contacted by the EU Commission as part of this alleged investigation but we would welcome any proposals by the Commission to force Europe’s high fare airlines to match Ryanair’s fares, our inclusive advertising, our low fare availability and our guarantee of no fuel surcharges ever.”
