Russians undertake Pan-African motorcycle trip
Posted on: January 15th, 2008 by Neill ZerkLong, arduous and multi-country motorcycle trips have been the dream of many a traveller with a knack for gears, nuts and bolts, but not so many of us have been able to undertake such a mission; what with the extensive planning involving schedules, visas and food, let alone the wild cards of motorcycle maintenance and unforeseen weather patterns.
The last high-profile motorcycle trip was shot and written about by two Scotsmen, one of which who just happened to be a famous actor, Ewan McGregor. Their trip around the world caught the attention of media and gained new fans to a unique way to travel.
The latest large scale motorcycle journey is to be carried out by two Russians, Grigory Kubatyan and Alexei Pomor, who will make a two-wheel trip across Africa, passing through 32 countries in the space of one year.
The journey was supposed to have gotten underway in Egypt in December of last year, but the bureaucracy held up the trip until now. Kubatayan says he and his partner “want to test recourses of the human body, and learn how Africa has changed over the recent time.”
