Royal Caribbean to reimburse passengers
Posted on: March 12th, 2008 by Dave BessRoyal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. is one of the largest cruise operators in the world, and they will need to have deep pockets as such to deal with the ruling of a Florida court who has ordered the company to reimburse passengers for fuel surcharges in the ticket price that were not sufficiently apparent. The company will be giving back $21 million in total refunds on 300,000 bookings received from November 15th, 2007. Spokeswoman for the Florida Attorney General Sandi Copes said, “There’s gonna be a lot of happy cruisers.” The Attorney General, Bill McCollum had received over 300 complaints about the fuel surcharges, which spurned him on to make his own enquiries into whether or not customers were being informed that they were footing the bill for higher fuel prices. It appears they were not. McCollum told the press, “This resolution will serve as a model for the rest of the cruise line industry and I expect the other companies to take this example and follow suit.”
