Authorities in China have granted permission for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines to operate chartered cruises from Shanghai to Taiwan. The cruise line will operate six cruises on Legend of the Seas from 14 March to 19 April.
The approval for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines to operate these sailings is the first time China’s government has allowed chartered cruises to run within the country’s territory.
Itineraries call for six nights and seven days of cruising, stopping at the Taiwanese ports of call Hualien, Keelung and Taichung.
Dr Liu Zinan, the managing director for China of Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, commented: “Royal Caribbean Cruise Line is very pleased with this chance to contribute to the peace and exchange between the people of both straits.”
He added: “Due to our global strategies and the strong demand from other markets, even though Royal Caribbean Cruise Line is not able to fully satisfy its customer’s needs for chartered cruises in China, this has shown us the huge potential of the Chinese market.”
Legend of the Seas will also be operating a five-night North Asian cruise on 19 April 2009, from Shanghai to Fukuoka and Busan.
In November of 2009, Legend of the Seas will return to Asia for a series of five-to-seven-night sailings from Shanghai to Japan and Korea.
