The recent fringe Responsible Tourism Networking event was held at the Abacus Bar in the City of London, attracting more than 100 small travel operators, agents and interested attendees to share their experiences with responsible travel.

Attendance at the event made clear the diversity in the tourism industry, the broad interest in responsible travel and the opportunities available in the sector.

The evening’s main presentation was made by Rika Jen-Francois, representing the giant ITB Berlin Tourism Fair. ITB Berlin has extended an invitation to the organizers of the Responsible Tourism event to introduce the event in Berlin in 2009.

Last year, India’s The Blue Yonder and Your Safe Planet, of the UK, organized the networking event, in celebration of the first Responsible Tourism Day at the World Travel Market (WTM), aiming to bring together individuals and organizations with an interest in responsible travel.

Gopinath Parayil of The Blue Yonder commented: “I think we can proudly say that our 11th evening networking was one of the most talked about and certainly useful and enjoyable evening so far at the World Travel Market this year. It was once again a fantastic feeling to have seen all those young at heart who turned up in big numbers and made their contributions by sharing their amazing experiences.”
