Rapper Beanie Siegel faces charges of theft and unauthorized use of an automobile after he failed to return his rental car on time. The hip hop artists was asked to surrender to the authorities by October 8th on his own volition.

Investigators on the case claim that Siegel rented a 2007 model Nissan Altima on July 23rd from Payless Car Rental in Southwest Philadelphia. He was allowed to rent the car despite the fact that his drivers license had been suspended at that time.

Siegel was due to return the car on August 13th. Instead he continued driving the vehicle and the company continued to charge his credit card for its use. However on September 6th, the company reported the car stolen to the police.

According to Fortunato Perri, the attorney working of Siegel on the case, the arrest is the result of a mere miscommunication. “We’ve learned that a warrant was issued for his arrest for failure to return a vehicle,” he said. “Apparently there was some misunderstanding over when it was to be returned or whether or not payment was continuing to be made.”

On October 5th the car was returned to the company, although not by Siegel himself. At the time the car was returned, the late fee was reportedly $5,000. On that day, police reportedly went to the rappers home in Lansdale to arrest him. Siegel was in New York at the time.

“The car has been returned,” Perri said. “And whatever money is owed to the company has been paid or will be paid shortly.”
