Rail passengers warned over disruptions

Passengers on Scottish trains have been warned of disruptions on some routes due to signalling and track improvement work that is about to commence.

High level services both into and out of Glasgow Central have been cancelled until 30 December.

In addition, some of the services running between Perth, Inverness and Aberdeen will be impacted over the coming week. Trains between Dundee and Aberdeen will not run from 3-4 January.

According to First ScotRail, track improvement work between Ardrossan and Kilwinning will affect service on the Largs line from 2-3 January.

First ScotRail operations and safety director, Steve Montgomery, noted that bus services would be available to passengers to replace cancelled trains on all routes affected.

He added: “We have done everything possible to keep inconvenience to an absolute minimum by running as many services as possible. Full plans are in place to provide alternative transport arrangements where required.”

Montgomery went on to say: “Journeys will take longer than normal and passengers should allow more time from travel.”

The suspension of high level services at Glasgow Central is occurring so that signalling operations can be transferred to the new £200 million centre at Cowlairs.

Services at Glasgow Central’s low level station will run, but at reduced levels from 27-29 December.
