The capital city of Ecuador has undergone a revival of sorts in recent times, and the city that used to be used as nothing more than a jumping off point to be vacated after a good nights sleep has become a destinations in its own right. Qiuito has never enjoyed a good reputation, with reports of crime filled streets in the new town and rubbish strewn streets in the old, but things are changing.

Since a huge influx of public and private money began flowing into the city in 2001, it’s been up and away with restoration of historic buildings, construction of new hotels, and the hiring of more tourist police to deal with the crime that put so many people off of Quito for so long.

The rush to prosperity hasn’t meant the local culture has been neglected thankfully, and traditional garb is still worn by many locals that shuffle along the same streets as the growing numbers of tourists findig more and more reasons to spend a few more days in Quito.
