Queen Elizabeth opens T5
Posted on: March 18th, 2008 by Dave SmithLondon’s Heathrow International Airport is the busiest travel hub in the world, and with the record delays frustrating passengers to no end, a new terminal to ease some of the stress in the heavily over-crowded terminal is, according to some, long overdue. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the expansions of Heathrow Airport, but the country’s monarchical figurehead, Queen Elizabeth II was present on Friday to officially open the glossy new terminal.
Her majesty was quoted as saying, “Looking around this bright and airy space with its clean, efficient layout, I am sure that many millions of travelers will have reason to be appreciative of the thought and care that has gone into the design, construction and ongoing maintenance of this significant new terminal.
It is destined to become one of London’s most iconic transport buildings. Terminal 5 is a bold statement of intent for Heathrow’s future. It sends out a message that together we are working to make Heathrow a world-class airport again.”
The Queen said that BAA plans to continue to revamp the existing terminals now that the big project of constructing Terminal 5 is behind them.
