The multi-day protest organized to have voices heard over the issue of climate change got slightly ugly this weekend, as police bashed around a few protesters that had managed to skirt the protest perimeter.

The BAA’s operator base was targeted as a place of protest to force airlines to assume responsibility for the effects of aviation en lieu of global warming. About 50 people managed to sneak into the parking lot of the BAA building by cutting through residential yards, but police corralled them back to the designated protest area.

Since the rallies began there have been 45 arrests but no one is being detained. Activist Peter McDonnell said to media, “There’s been so much media hysteria about baby-eating anarchists. What we’re saying is that this is a peaceful protest. The only thing we are armed with is the consensus of the scientific community.”

Part of the protest has to do with plans to expand Heathrow airport, which activists say is going too far; while the British government claims to be doing everything it can to find a solution to the problem of global warming.
