Problems with trains
Posted on: February 14th, 2008 by Rosie Vaughan-JonesPassengers buying rail tickets in the UK were sold tickets for trains that didn’t exist because of a problem with engineering over the New Year.
The problem was discovered by the consumer watchdog known as Passenger Focus. Already passengers were affected by overburdened Network Rail over the holiday period.
Those travelers who booked tickets online were frequently given the wrong information about time schedules and ticket availability. Passengers holding tickets were denied boarding and were given wrong information about trains.
The National Rail had expected to complete engineering works at Rugby and also at London Liverpool Street. Instead, work continued and 300,000 passengers had problems with the rail system over the holidays. Virgin’s West Coast mainline services and One’s service around Liverpool Street were all affected by the problems.
