Priority landing at Heathrow for BA Boeing 757
Posted on: October 14th, 2008 by Andrew BonesEmergency services were in place as a British Airways Boeing 757, filled with fumes, and with 137 passengers on board, landed at Heathrow Airport shortly after 8:00am on Monday.
No one on board was taken ill or hurt during the incident and passengers disembarked normally after the plane landed, which had departed the Nice, France airport at approximately 6:30am UK time.
It is likely that this incident requiring an urgent landing will continue to raise concerns around the world about aircraft safety.
Just the day before, another BA flight was involved in an emergency landing at Berlin, Germany airport, when an electrical fault was found in an economy-class television screen on a Boeing 777 flight headed for Delhi, India. A few days earlier, a similar problem on a BA flight to Houston forced a diversion to Chicago.
The Delhi flight had 222 passengers on board, and landed safely in Berlin, from where it was sent back to Heathrow for an inspection by engineers before departing for Delhi once again.
One week ago, over 40 people on a Qantas flight were hospitalized after the Airbus aircraft took a sudden nose-dive and lost altitude during a flight on route to Perth, Australia from Singapore. The incident was the latest in a number of similar occurrences that has led to a review of the national carrier’s practices by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
