Premier Inn to open new green hotel in December
Posted on: September 17th, 2008 by Dave HumphriesPremier Inn will open a green hotel in Staffordshire this December. Construction on the Tamworth Hotel is nearing completion and will serve as the new industry standard when it comes to environmentally friendly hotels. Strengths of the new hotel will be increased general efficiency and reduced wastes.
It is expected that the Tamworth Hotel will use nearly 80 per cent less energy than a traditional hotel consumes. Premier Inn has been able to accomplish this by using special low carbon technology and building materials. Solar powers installed at the hotel will provide water for hundreds of baths every year. Toilet water will be completely provided through a grey recycling process. Heat pumps will use the energy from the Earth to heat and cool the rooms in the hotel. Insulation with special thermal and acoustic properties will be sued throughout the hotel.
Alan Parker who is the chief executive officer of Whitbread which is the parent company of Premier Inn said that “This hotel is truly ground-breaking in that this combination of technologies has never been used before in the UK. They were chosen from a range of initiatives that we believe deliver the most positive social and environmental impact on future hotel builds.
“Hotel energy use is a complex equation and we have taken a first step in deploying all technologies available to us, in order that we get it just right. This will allow us in the future to implement sustainable practices across our wider estate.”
