Detectives from the Essex police have travelled to Portugal in a murder investigation following the disappearance of a man from Essex who has been missing since 15 September.

The Essex man, Paul Duckenfield, has been living in Portugal with his family for some time. In September, he arrived at London’s Stansted airport, but subsequently vanished.

Police officers have been making inquiries into his business dealings and personal background in their efforts to determine a motive for murder.

Duckenfield has already been linked with supplying steroids to UK athletes and bodybuilders, police revealed.

He would have turned 42 this month, but there has been no contact according to members of his family – a fact that reinforces the belief by the police that he is not alive.

Det Supt Tim Wills, of the Essex Police department, said: “I would urge anyone who can give any firm information about his movements since his arrival at Stansted and a possible motive for his killing or the whereabouts of his body to contact us.”

Duckenfield was expected to return to Portugal four days after arriving in the UK, on 19 September.

He was reported missing by his wife, at which time detectives in Derbyshire, where he previously resided, began their inquiries.
