Plane parts found in family’s backyard
Posted on: August 14th, 2007 by Neill ZerkA woman in McFarland, Wisconsin, USA had a bit of surprise last week as she went out into her backyard to hang her laundry and found a large metal object laying in the yard. The two-foot piece of metal tore through a tree but no one was in the yard when it landed and no one was hurt.
In an interview with WISC-TV in Madison, Wisconsin, Judy St. Clair described what she saw when she left her house: “I was coming out with the laundry basket to hang my laundry, and I noticed … a large, large piece of metal in my yard. I thought, ‘Oh, my goodness. That looks like an airplane wing.’ But I thought, ‘How can that be?”‘
She then called local police and the McFarland authorities passed the object on to Federal Aviation Administration. It was later confirmed that a wing flap had fallen off Northwest Airlines flight 1449 from Detroit.
Northwest Airlines spokesman Dean Breest assured media that, “The approximate 2-foot-long piece used to reduce drag was not a flight safety issue.”
