The travel company’s representative added: “Thomas Cook staff were on hand at the airport to assist all passengers and can confirm that all guests are now en route to their holiday hotels. Thomas Cook has called on Air Europa and the airport authorities to provide a full explanation.”

Air Europa indicated that the plane wan not damaged and that it had begun its investigation into the cause of the incident.

Following the incident, the runway at Lanzarote airport was closed for three hours, and reopened at 10:25am local time after the plane had been moved, the Air Europa spokesman reported.
