Places for some serious romance in the Rockies
Posted on: October 14th, 2007 by Jennifer JonesTravelers picturing a vacation in Canada’s Rocky Mountains often picture rustic log cabins in vast stretches of wilderness with wolves howling on the horizon and days of roughing it ahead. The reality is that a number of lodges, hotels and cabins are available offering first class service amidst some of the world’s most spectacular scenery.
Cathedral Mountain Lodge is located on the banks of the Yoho River, just off the Trans-Canada highway near the village of Field just inside British Columbia. There are a number of short hikes in the area which help travelers work up an appetite for the amazing gourmet food served at the lodge including such exotic dishes as a caribou ragout.
Instead of televisions, internet and cellphones (none of which are present or work at the Lodge), each cabin has a deep soaker bathtub, a super soft sofa and a fantastic bed. Unfortunately, the Lodge is only open for the summer and closes at the end of October.
Emerald Lake Lodge is located in Alberta and is a favorite spot for tourists exploring the Rockies. There are only 24 cabins offering first class accommodation including internet and phone service. Canoes are available to paddle across the lake’s jade colored water, or you can watch from the porch of your cabin, watching the sun set before dinner at the world renown Emerald Lake Lodge restaurant.
Brewsters Shadow Lake Lodge appeals to more active travelers because of its easy access to hikes, biking trails and cross country ski routes. In fact, it is necessary to do one of those things just to get to the lodge which is 14 kilometers from the parking lot at Red Earth Creek on the Trans-Canada highway. You’ll know you’re getting close when you smell the Lodge’s baking wafting through the air.
Mountain lodges make great romantic getaways for couples looking to take some time out, rekindle romance or just enjoy some private time together in a beautiful setting.
