Peugeot rental service to extend to UK
Posted on: March 10th, 2010 by Doug SmithOperating in France for some time, Peugeot’s Mu ‘pay as you go’ car rental service will soon be available in the UK market. The new Peugeot rental service works by getting a prepaid account and topping it up online by using its website. The customer then will be able to avail of various rental services from Peugeot – including bicycles; scooters; vehicles ranging from models 308 CC, 207 CC, 407 Coupe, SUV and MPV; and even accessories like roof boxes.
Managing Director Jon Goodman informed that Peugeot is the only firm to offer such innovative service. Peugeot’s Mu is now being tested in France and Goodman anticipates launching the scheme in the UK by the end of this year.
The concept behind the new service is to allow easier access to rental vehicles in cities where owning a car is costly and sometimes problematic. Currently, rental cost in Paris ranges from €65 per day for a 207 CC model to €215 a week for a 407 Coupe car. Meanwhile, a Mondeo 2.3 in Malaysia can be rented for a price of RM458 a day from Sime Darby Hertz Rent A Car.
Peugeot’s Mu scheme is expected to play a major role in the company’s future launch of the Ion car model, the firm’s rebadged Mitsubishi iMiEV. Peugeot and Mitsubishi are expected to work side by side from this time on, since they both have completed the rebadge deals for 4007/C-Crosser and Peugeot Ion. However earlier this month, both companies had announced the abandonment of their plan for an equity stake swap to close the contract.
