Orthodox Jew removed from plane for praying
Posted on: April 21st, 2008 by Charlotte FellowsWhen flight attendants on a United Airlines plane at John F. Kenndey International Airport in New York City began to make sure all passengers were seated with their seatbelts fastened before take-off, there was one passenger who refused to be seated. The man was dressed in the telltale garb of an Orthodox Jew, and continued praying despite the attempts by the flight attendant to communicate. Two of the man’s friends told the flight attendant that once praying began, it could not be stopped for anything.
When the man finished about two minutes after the initial contact eh explained he didn’t mean any disrespect, but the attendants didn’t se it that way and a guard was summoned to remove the passenger from the plane. United Airlines says the man was placed on another flight, and the New York and New jersey Port Authorities said they had nothing to with the incident and could not comment.
