Open skies deal to break markets open
Posted on: March 21st, 2008 by Bobby V-JonesMarch 30th is the first day that the open skies agreement between the United States and the European Union comes into effect, and it’s not only the airlines that will be taking advantage of the new routes opening. When the floodgates open there will be many new sales and promotions, and customers will have to act fast to take full advantage of all the deals.
The agreement puts an end to restrictions on where certain airlines can fly on either side of the Atlantic, and will surely mean more competition and better prices on certain routes.
For example, Germany’s flagship carrier Lufthansa will fly bigger jets across the Atlantic, with some new routes including a Frankfurt-Seattle route, and the future will hold flights between the United States and Germany using the new Airbus double-decker A380 superjumbo. This will surely prove advantageous for Lufthansa, as no US carrier has ordered any of the ground-breaking jets as of yet.
