Olympic charters to have special post at BCIA
Posted on: February 28th, 2008 by Bobby V-JonesBeijing Capital International Airport has put the finishing touches on its super modern Terminal 3 building, and has set aside no less than 100,000 square metres of space to accommodate charter flights that will be arriving for the 2008 Olympic Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. This represents only 10 percent of the total space available at the facility, with 12 boarding gates set aside for the charters.
The general manager of the airport, Dong Zhiyi says, “We are well prepared and confident of ensuring convenient and comfortable services to passengers.” In what has become typical rhetoric, Zhiyi used the opportunity to extol the virtue of China as an empire, citing how its commitment to the games proves its pwer and relevance in the modern age.
BCIA is already among the top ten busiest airports in the world, with a passenger turnover of 53.47 million last year alone. The new terminal will host 26 airlines during the games, with 6 airlines taking up their homes immediately. They are El Al Israel Airlines, Qatar Airways, Qantas Airways, British Airways, Suchuan Airways and Shangdong Airlines.
