Norwegian Cruise Line cancels Pearl sailing
Posted on: September 4th, 2008 by Doug SmithThe 26 October sailing of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Pearl has been canceled in order to carry out some necessary technical repairs. The cruise ship will enter dry-dock on 26 October for repairs to a bearing in its propulsion system.
According to a spokesperson for the cruise line, during a routine inspection, engineers noticed that there was “localized wear” in the thrust bearing. The wear has no impact on safety, but it has affected the speed at which the ship can travel. It will continue to sail at reduced speeds until it enters dry-dock in late October.
Passengers booked on the sailing that was canceled, a seven-night cruise through the Western Caribbean, will be receiving full refunds, as all reservations will be canceled, and deposits returned after 16 September.
In addition, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is offering a credit of 25 per cent of the cost of a future cruise, based on the fare that was booked for the 26 October voyage. The credit will be valid for any NCL cruise through 26 October 2009.
The schedules of several other upcoming sailings on the Norwegian Pearl are being changed due to the ship’s current speed limitations.
