No more flights to Sydney or Singapore for Gulf
Posted on: June 15th, 2007 by Charlotte Fellows| This month, Bahrain-based Gulf Airlines is canceling its flights to Sydney and Singapore. The terminations are a part of a massive restructuring on the part of the airline but the move still came as a surprise to many.
The two new cancellations join several other destinations no longer served by Gulf Air. Two weeks ago, Gulf stopped its flights to Johannesburg and announced plans to finish flights to Dublin at the end of June. Dublin flights will end on June 29, the same day as the end of service to Sydney. As Gulf serves a number of Middle Eastern countries and flies from several destinations in Europe, Australia can expect that the lack of flights will affect the number of tourists coming into the country. New flights to Australia, however, were recently introduced to Sydney by Etihad Airways and to Melbourne by Qatar Airways. The news is a shock especially to those who already have tickets to the Gulf-terminated destinations for travel after June 29. A spokesperson for the airline said, “Gulf Air is working closely with a number of other airlines to arrange alternative travel plans for our customers, (who have paid in full and been ticketed for travel on Gulf Air), so that they are suitably re-accommodated on other flights at no additional cost.” The airline is offering a full refund for those with tickets beyond cancellation days and will also accommodate its passengers of flights with partner airlines. New arrangements can be made through travel agents or directly through the Gulf Air ticket office. www.gulfair.com |
