Newest Edinburgh hotel is Union Canal barge

The newest hotel to open in the Scottish capital is far from typical, having swans and other waterfowl for neighbours, and measuring just 55 by 11 feet β with no space for any staff.
When the first floating hotel in Edinburgh opens on Union Canal, however, there will be plenty of home comforts provided for its guests.
Camillia McLachlan, proprietor of the barge hotel, recently retired after managing the Kingsview B&B, located in Gilmore Place, for over 20 years. Although she thought she had seen the last of hotel guests, McLachlan soon found a new pastime turning into a business venture.
Work is now being completed on her hotel barge, to be known as The Four Sisters. It can sleep six adults and four children, and features plasma television screens in the living room and the bedrooms, a full galley kitchen and a separate shower room.
McLachlan, who is 50 years old, explained that the hotel came about unintentionally: βIt was on a whim, really. I thought about doing this never having been on a boat before β originally it was supposed to be just for pleasure, for myself, but the expenses started piling up and I thought I’d have to start doing charters on it, so I got my skipper’s licence.β
