New York draws British travelers
Posted on: May 22nd, 2008 by Bobby V-JonesLeading travel retailer Travelocity.co.uk, recently released statistics showing a strong interest in America on the part of British travelers. Britons are indulging in extended holidays to the USA as a result of the strong pound.
Since the beginning of the year, Travelocity has noticed a 50 per cent increase in the number of people traveling from the UK for a multi-centre break in the US. In addition, the length the average traveler is staying on the other side of the Atlantic is increasing, from ten to 14 days.
The weak US Dollar currently shows no sign of changing its performance and has stabilized at around two dollars for every pound, making America a much less expensive holiday destination than in the past.
New York has emerged as one of the most popular starting points for a multi-centre tour of the States. Not only are there many flights and great deals available to get there, but the city has a reputation for shopping and suddenly designer items are available to British shoppers at quite reduced prices.
The shopping is such an attraction that Travelocity says it has noticed an increase in the number of all female holiday groups travelling to New York. Another contributing factor may be the launch of the Sex in the City movie.
