New York’s airports guarantee tardiness
Posted on: June 18th, 2007 by Emily WelchThe world’s largest airports are often frustrating paces to negotiate. The sheer volume of people al clamouring to get somewhere at the same time can be tense. What can make this experience all the more tiresome is a flight delay. According to the figures over the last year, the airports that service New York City hold one of the worst airport reputations for delays and cancellations.
Between January and April, New York’s three airports (Newark Liberty, John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia) saw 38 percent of all flights delayed or cancelled outright.
Newark for example, averaged a wait of 95 minutes for over 15,000 delayed flights.
Of the roughly equal amount of flights that arrived in an untimely manner, a delay of one hour was the average.
This is not a welcome reputation for the Prot Authority of New York and New Jersey, and they and more government agencies will be addressing the problem over the next year.
One task force member is Dave Barger, CEO of JetBlue Airways. “This impacts the entire country. As goes Kennedy, so goes the nation.” This comment in reference to the fact that so many planes destined for other American destinations connect at JFK.
Problems to be tackled are outdated runways, air congestion and how to deal with the wildcards of storms.
