New Tune Hotels to Charge for Clean Rooms and Towels
Posted on: August 10th, 2010 by Dave HumphriesIt’s not uncommon for travelers to choose budget hotels to save money and then decide to treat themselves to the mini-bar for being so smart in their choosing. However, getting a treat from the mini-bar may be a thing of the past in the UK with the launch of Malaysian hotel chain Tune Hotels by the end of August.
The budget hotels will cost £35 per night for a standard room, which includes a bed, power shower and central location in the capital. However, guests will need to be cautious of the extra charges for using their hair-drier (£2), storing luggage (£2) and using their towels (£1 each). The hotels will also charge guests £7.50 per day if they want their room cleaned.
Tune Hotels is hoping to take on bloated room rates in the city and become the Ryanair of the hotel market by charging users extra for everything they possibly can. The first location is set to open on August 30 on Westminster Bridge Road. More are expected to open throughout the country depending on how popular the first one becomes.
There is potential that 15 will open in Greater London by 2017 if all goes well. This will create another 1,500 rooms, representing a £150 million investment in the hospitality sector of the city.
Company chief executive Mark Lankester said that they are all about choice. They say that consumers should assemble the experience as they want it, he explained. Their aim is to provide the things that suit customers in terms of comfort and price, he continued. There are plenty of 5-star hotels in London for those that want to stay in one, he added, but their locations will be relevant for those that are worried about price.
