Indianapolis-based airling, ATA followed through with plans to launch new flights to Hawaii on Thursday. The airline added two more daily flights to its usual lineup in order to connect all four major islands through its service.

Of the two new flights, on is between Las Vegas and Kahului, Maui. The other links the airlines hub on the West coast, Oakland to Lihue and Kona.

“We’re excited to welcome this new direct flight to Kauai,” said Sue Kanoho, executive director of the Kauai Visitors Bureau. “Kauai is a favorite getaway for those living in California’s Bay Area.”

The number of people traveling to Kauai has gone down over the last year, with numbers of arrivals dropping to record levels in 2007.

AtA now offers more flights to moreĀ  Hawaiian airports than any other mainland airline despite the fact that United Airlines has more seats going to Hawaii.

ATA Chief Executive Subodh Karnik was excited about the new flights. “The addition of low-cost air service to Kona and Lihue opens up affordable vacations for tourists from all across the USA,” he said.
