In Wales many people fear that tighter budgets will impact the profitability of the classic B&B.  As budget hotels spring up in the area many will book their vacations at these instead of spending extra money to stay at a B&B because many are experiencing tighter cash flow.  A new Travelodge is being proposed to councilors that would see the addition built in Caenarfon as a 59 room hotel next to the water.

Budget Hotels like Travelodge are already becoming common in Wales.  Built to take advantage of business clientele during the week they typically drop their rates over the weekend to attract tourists.  As the credit crush spreads over the country many are forced to tighten budgets and find that in order to take their family vacations money has to be cut somewhere.  As these budget hotel chains are being built more frequently in touristy areas people are choosing to save money by staying there instead of higher priced B&Bs.

Vacationers are also reporting that they enjoy the ease of use that big chains offer in comparison to that of your typical B&B.  Big chains have easy to use websites that can be used for online booking where as a B&B is generally harder to track down and it is unlikely you will be able to book your vacation online with them.

The owner of a B&B in Caernafon, Will Williams, has said that “What’s worrying most of us is what prices the Premier Inn and Travelodge will drop down to in the winter.  If they drop to 30 pounds per room, to keep ticking over the winter, they will kill the B&Bs.”
