New BA ballot date January 22

Cabin crew working for British Airways will launch a fresh ballot in two weeks, which could result in the walk-out of thousands of cabin crew.

The union representing the cabin crew, Unite, say they have written to 12,700 members informing them about the new vote for industrial action which will take place on the 22nd of January.

Union bosses claimed that they were absolutely committed and determined to ensuring that the voices of its cabin crew are heard through the ballot.

The bid comes just days after both BA and Unite held a round of peace talks at the TUC, which could have a potentially devastating effect on the airline if talks fall through.

A crippling 12 day strike was planned over the peak winter travel period over new pay and working conditions, which was averted at the last minute after a high court rules that the ballot conducted by Unite was illegal as it was sent to over 900 employees who are no longer working with the airline.

But BA staff remains angered by the imposition of the new working conditions, which include removing at least one flight attendant working on all long-haul flights.

The airline has also come under firefrom the Air Stewards union BASSA, by suspending about 20 cabin crew directors for speaking out against airline management during flights.

Some cabin crew have apologised to passengers for shortages and blamed the cost-savings demanded by BA chief executive Willie Walsh.
