Network Rail to receive heavy fine for overrun contract

Network Rail is the company who had been contracted to remodel around 50 miles of track around Portsmouth, as well as replace signals, but the problem is that it was scheduled for completion in January.
The Office of Rail Regulation has issued a fine of £2.4 million. Though some servies around Portsmouth are still not fully operational, the director of group infrastructure for Network Rail Peter Henderson fired back:
“The company took prompt action to mitigate the disruption to passengers and the majority of services were restored some time ago. We will continue to work with train operators to manage delivery of these major renewal and remodelling projects in an affordable way to achieve improvements for passengers and freight users, the vast majority of which are delivered on time and on budget.”
There are five of the seven services up and running and the final two are now said to be completed by October.
The Office of Rail Regulation voiced concern that the delays were unacceptable to the standards for which the company was hired and that too many passengers relying on the service are still struggling because of the delays.
