Nepal becoming a himalayan hotspot

Nepal has always been known for its stunning vistas of mountain valleys and the venerable Himalaya mountain range that runs through the centre of the country like a spine.

The tallest peak in the world is here after all, and Mt. Everest is the big one for anyone who fancies themselves mountaineers. But it has always been a niche market travelling to Nepal.

This seems to be changing, however. A recent study undertaken by Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu reveals that tourism is on the rise, and not only for mountain climbing. Many more people are coming here for hiking, moderate trekking and just to relax.

The Maoist uprising has calmed considerably recently and people are beginning to feel more confident about their safety in the country.

Indian travellers made up the largest portion of visitors, due to the proximity to their own country, with Europeans making up about a third of visitors. The interesting figure is that British visits rose a whopping 86.3% over the course of May.
