Nearly half of BA flights delayed
Posted on: May 13th, 2008 by Dave BessAccording to the Association of European Airlines, British Airways has fallen behind several of its major European competitors when it comes to punctuality. This year the airline has accumulated a record 43 percent of all its short and medium haul flights as delayed. A delay in these figures means the flight left its departure point at least 15 minutes behind schedule.
Last year the percentage of delayed BA flights was only 29 percent, making this year’s stats that put BA at the bottom rung of all 29 European carriers submitting their statistics for review to the AEA. BA’s long haul flights were at the same level of delay, also a decrease in efficiency from the same period last year.
When compared to Allitalia, Air France and Iberia who submitted records with over 80 percent efficiency, BA’s performance seems all the more abysmal. One big factor in the poor performance can be attributed to the major hiccups with the opening of the all-BA Terminal 5 at Heathrow Airport.
