More Danish tourists heading to London
Posted on: October 27th, 2009 by Paul FenrichThe introduction of budget airlines between Copenhagen and London seems to have had a significant, positive impact on inbound tourism to the UK from Denmark.
These statistics have been released by managers of the Copenhagen airport, who say that services from the Danish capital to London airports like Stansted, Gatwick, Heathrow and London City have witnessed a ten percent rise on last years figures.
Around ten per cent more travellers flew to London in September this year compared to the same period last year, a figure that will be welcomed by tourism in the UK, which has, like in many other countries, struggled to stay afloat in the face of the global slowdown in travel.
In fact, this trend seems to be one of the few increases recorded on routes worldwide. The UK has seen its overall incoming visitor numbers plummet in the last two years, although latest reprts have indicated that this year has fared better than the last.
London receives around 1.5 million travellers from Copenhagen each year. This year, in September, around 132,000 travellers made the journey from Copenhagen to the English capital. The most popular airlines servicing this route include easyJet, Norwegian Airlines and Sterling.
Some 1.5 million passengers fly from Copenhagen to London every year with easyJet, Norwegian Airlines and Sterling.
Tourism to London and the UK in general is also expected to be boosted by a new British Airways connection between Las Vegas and London’s Gatwick, launched just this week.
