In the past it would have been unthinkable for American states to be wooing for their share of a growing Chinese travel market. Whereas a few short years ago all but a very select few Chinese were even permitted to travel abroad, and the desire was akin to treachery. Today China’s growing middle class has got the travel bug, and with the sheer number of them, possible destinations are doing everything they can to make their area desirable to the Chinese tourists that will come and drop significant amounts of money into local economies.

Florida is one US state that is drooling over potential Chinese influx. The problem lies in geography. Most Chinese will enter the United States from the west coast, and therefore get their beach, brand name and theme park fix in California. “Everything Florida has to offer they can get on the way — beaches, Disneyland. Why would they come all the way across the country to Florida?” ask some Floridian tour operators.
