Of many of Manchester airport’s achievements, this one is sure to flush you away. Manchester airport was recently awarded ‘the Best Airport Loo’ in the whole world for the year 2009 by a toilet watch dog. Evidently, no matter which class we choose to fly from, we will be ensured a five star experience at one of Manchester’s toilets and urinals.

There are reportedly more than a thousand toilets at the Manchester Airport and over 464 urinals. An annual passenger turnover of around 20 million people means a lot of cleaning and scrubbing for the three hundred odd staff to do. However, the entire community responsible for the cleanliness of the airport has taken the award very seriously. They are ecstatic about the achievement given, and managers have described the cleaning staff as the unsung heroes of Manchester Airport.

The award concentrates on aspects such as the comfort factor of a toilet away from home. Since most people are highly skeptical about using public toilets and have often had bad experiences using them, the award aims to dispel such convictions. This award has been going out for the last twenty years. It also aims to honour the behind-the-scenes staff that we rarely encounter as we travel.

The head of Customer Experience at Manchester airport, Sarrah Bennet has mentioned that the airport is taking this award very seriously and is very pleased at the committee’s decision. The whole journey is said to be a lot better if basic facilities are properly in place.
