Malaysia to get first Asian Legoland Theme park
Posted on: December 8th, 2009 by Darren RobinsonIn 2012, Malaysia is all set to open up a new Legoland theme park. This announcement comes as a surprise, as the theme park will open up almost a year ahead of schedule. The park is said to cost around 700 million ringgit or 206 million dollars.
Arlida Ariff, who is the president and Chief officer for Iskander Investment Berhad , has reported that the park is slated to open in April 2012. The park is said to cover over 26 acres of land in the state of Johor and is located on the border shared by Singapore.
Legoland’s location was allegedly deliberately chosen. The theme park that is planned in Singapore will centre on drawing only teens and young adults while the one in Malaysia will be for families. The move is said to be complimentary rather than competitive. The Malaysian Legoland will be the first Legoland theme park in Asia.
Iskandar Investment Berhad is an investment holding company and is currently handling the Iskander Development Region, considered the biggest infrastructural project in Johor.
Iskandar Investment Berhad had signed an agreement with Merlin Entertainments in 2008. Merlin Entertainments runs various attractions along the globe, and are touted to be the main architects of the theme park and. Merlin will be responsible for designing and operating the theme park. The entertainment company is slated to have ownership of around 20 percent of the company while Iskandar Investment Berhad will own the remaining 80 percent.
