London Named Among Top Ten Affordable Destinations by Lonely Planet
Posted on: November 4th, 2009 by Dave BessIn the wake of a global recession coupled with a deflated pound, London has become one of the world’s most affordable destinations this year. In a compilation guide listing the top ten most affordable destinations in Europe, the Lonely Planet, has identified the British capital as one such location.
Once seen as one of the most expensive vacations for foreigners, London has become much more appealing to visitors arriving from abroad. Visitors are looking to take advantage of the weakened pound and increasing discounts and promotions for accommodation.
Tom Hall, editor for the Lonely Planet, said that the odds have flipped and now London’s previously held status as one of the most expensive destinations is evaporating. Other locations around the world to top the list include Las Vegas, Iceland, South Africa, and Kenya.
The Lake District also made it into the guide as one of the world’s top 10 areas to visit. The guide describes the district as a lush green expanse of English landscape. Cork in Ireland also got a nod for top ten cities along with Singapore, Istanbul, and Vancouver.
Other popular British destinations and activities which found a spot among the guide’s many different categories include the Isle of Wight, Cavern Club in Liverpool, the Glastonbury Festival, the Minack Theatre in Cornwall, the 100 Club in London, and the London Underground, which was mentioned in the guides top 10 “geek trips”.
