Liverpool in top three UK city break destinations again
Posted on: September 7th, 2009 by Emily WelchFor the second consecutive year, Liverpool is one of the top three destinations for city breaks in the UK, according to the results of the latest reader poll conducted by Conde Nast Traveller magazine.
The winners were announced at the prestigious Conde Nast Traveller Annual Readers’ Travel Awards, held on 2nd September at the Royal Institution of Great Britain, in London.
For the second year running, Liverpool has ranked only behind London and Edinburgh as the favourite city in the UK. In 2007, Liverpool came in seventh in the rankings.
This year’s third-place ranking puts Liverpool ahead of other popular city break destinations such as Bath, which came in fourth; Oxford, in fifth place; Manchester, in sixth; and York, in seventh.
The Mersey Partnership (TMP), which is the Liverpool region’s tourist board, was delighted with the results. TMP promotes Liverpool both domestically and abroad.
Lorraine Rogers, who is TMP chief executive, commented on the award, calling the news fantastic, noting that the readers Conde Nast Traveller are among the most astute travellers in the world, which makes the honour even more important.
She went on to say that the move from seventh place in 2007 to third in just a year – and maintaining that spot – has been a great achievement for the city.
