After Seguro Travel Limited stopped trading on Wednesday, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was called in to protect the operator’s customers.

The company also traded as Kent Escapes and Seguro Holidays, operating from offices in Macclesfield, and offering fights and package holidays departing from Glasgow, Kent and Prestwick airports. The most popular travel destinations have been the Canary Islands and Portugal, and the holidays were sold typically through travel agents.

Currently there are 2,500 UK holidaymakers abroad on Seguro holidays, and nearly 18,000 have booked future holidays.

The CAA, under its Air Travel Organiser’s Licensing (ATOL) programme, is arranging for customers who are presently abroad to be able to finish their holidays and return to the UK afterwards, and for those with future bookings to receive full refunds.

At this time, the CAA has issued the following advice to customers of Seguro Travel: “If you are due to travel on a Seguro Travel air holiday or flight you should submit a claim to the CAA. Claim forms are available on the ATOL website at www.atol.org.uk. Do not go to your departure airport as all holidays have been cancelled.”

The advice goes on to say: “The CAA will be making arrangements to ensure customers on Seguro Travel holidays remain in their holiday accommodation and fly home as planned.”

The CAA is also making the information available to representatives at resorts at the destinations involved.
