Lanarkshire man meets violent death in Spain

The man, Derek Cowan, 46 years old and originally from Lanarkshire, was found lying in a pool of blood in his apartment on 8 October.
The Scot had settled in Spain a number of years ago.
The Spanish police website carries statement that a post-mortem examination has been conducted to determine whether the man had been murdered.
A spokeswoman for the UK’s Foreign Office said: “I can confirm the death of Derek Cowan, aged 46, in Spain.
“Next-of-kin have been informed in the UK. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office are in contact with the Spanish authorities who are looking into this.”
The inquiry is being conducted by the homicide squad of the Barcelona police.
Cowan grew up in Lanarkshire, where he attended Lanark Grammar School and Larkhall Academy, according to his entry on Friend’s Reunited website.
He also wrote in his website entry: “Have travelled extensively, living in London, Manila and now settled (for the time being) in Barcelona. Living with Spanish girlfriend and working as a currency trader in the sun.”
It has been reported that Cowan ran his business with a partner from Germany.
