A passenger aboard a Spirit Airlines flight from Lima, Peru was found traveling with a spider monkey under his hat.

The flight boarded late Monday night in Lima but the flight crew didn’t notice the man’s companion until after they had changed planes in Florida. The plane was headed for New York.
It was the passengers who first noticed the tiny primate. Spokesperson for the airline, Alison Russell said, “It was clinging to his ponytail underneath his hat.”

The man was questioned by federal officials upon landing in New York and the spider monkey was handed over to city officials. “How the passenger got through security, I can’t begin to say,” said Russell.
