American Express, Barclays, the Post Office, and other top consumer brands have begun a trend of charging more than 50 percent over what the accepted rate for travel insurance policies currently is, in order to rope in holiday makers to their policies. This information is according to Essential Travel.
Director of Essential Travel, Stuart Bensusan said that the top brand names are abusing consumer confidence. Many loyal customers to these brands are paying more than they should because they trust these household names. Sadly, their confidence is misplaced and these top household brands are overcharging, sometimes by up to 50 percent.

The Post Office will charge £40 for a single trip on the European continent, which is double what the policy is valued at. The same policy at Barclays will cost £31.59 and £24.37 at American Express. Essential Travel, however, charges £19 for the same single trip policy, and says that other travel specialists’ prices run roughly the same.

The travel firm adds that household brands which rarely operate in the travel sector should not be passing themselves off as travel or insurance specialists. Bensusan adds that overcharging simply because they are a brand name is outrageous and insulting.

Currently, Essential Travel holds the number one spot as the UK’s largest online travel company run independently. The company offers comprehensive travel insurance, airport car parking, hotel accommodation, car hire, and airport lounge access all at competitive, reasonable prices.
