Hoseasons predicts domestic holiday market growth
Posted on: November 18th, 2008 by Andrew BonesHoseasons has said that it disagrees with the recent VisitBritain statement saying that overseas visitors to the UK are decreasing in number.
The travel company claims that its figures show that the domestic travel market will benefit from more UK holidaymakers staying closer to home in 2009.
Its early booking numbers, as compared with sales in 2007, are showing an increase of 15 per cent in breaks around Britain booked for the coming year.
Hoseasons notes that the trend has been evident in boating, holiday park and lodge bookings.
The operator’s chief executive, Richard Carrick, said: “Our most recent figures show that there is still an appetite for holidays in Britain, and that domestic tourism operators will be well placed to benefit from the slowing economy. In fact some of our more popular product is already close to capacity for Summer 2009.”
He added: “Traditionally, in times of economic uncertainty holidaymakers ‘hunker down’ and stay closer to home. We firmly expect to benefit from this trend and see more people choosing to pack up the car and take a carefully financially managed break in the UK.”
Carrick stressed that it was important that the industry did not take this trend for granted. “Like any sector during a recession, there will be winners and losers,” he noted.
