Hollywood Holidays

When Opodo asked Britons what factors contributed to their choice of holiday destinations recently, over a quarter of those surveyed claimed that their minds were swayed by any number of pop culture factors, such as celebrity associations or film locations.

Ko Phi Phi in Southern Thailand has been welcoming the aftershocks of ‘The Beach’ since its release, a film that showcased the turquoise waters and sandy beaches that surround the island.
A whopping 45% of those surveyed listed the film as their reason to make the trek to Thailand.

This phenomenon has done wonders for the tourism industry in New Zealand following the release of the ‘Lord Of The Rings’ series; which was filmed on location in various places around the South Island. As many as 1 in 4 tourists claim to have been enticed to the Antipodes thanks to Peter Jackson’s trilogy.

This trend can be observed even in the most unlikely of places.
Bill Murray’s despondent character finding himself out of his element in Tokyo has flashed a few internal light bulbs and some have taken to this Far East Asian metropole for a weekend getaway to become ‘Lost In Translation’.

The current celebrity trend of adopting African babies has put some otherwise obscure nations in the spotlight as well.
Notably Namibia – a country now in the social consciousness after Brad Pitt and Angelina Joile chose it as a place of refuge to give birth to their first child.

Now what do you think these Pirates will do for the Caribbean?
