Holidays remain high priority for Britons
Posted on: December 9th, 2008 by Dave BessIn spite of the current financial crisis, Britons are saying that their holidays still remain a top priority, according to the results of a new study.
Fifty-nine per cent of those surveyed said that if they had to reduce their spending, their annual holiday would be the last item they would cut from their budget.
Of the 2,000 Thomson and First Choice customers polled, 82 per cent said that their annual break was an important event and not a luxury.
Eighty-eight per cent of the respondents did not feel that cuts in holiday spending would be their primary area of focus for overall spending reduction.
The two leading operators of TUI Travel suggested that customers might opt for 10-11 night breaks, rather than 14, meaning only one week off from work, but still with enough time for relaxation.
Other tips offered for saving money included early booking, as fewer holidays in 2009 will mean higher prices, and all-inclusive holidays, which make it easier to plan holiday expenditures.
Long-haul holidays were also suggested by the two operators as there are deals available on packages to the Dominican Republic, Florida and Mexico.
Tim Williamson, the customer director at Thomson and First Choice, said: “Holidays are about much more than simply jetting off into the sun for two weeks. They’re about spending time with our loved ones, taking time out to play with the kids, losing yourself in a good book, or just sitting back in the sun and recharging your batteries.”
