Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5 has been turned into the UK’s largest indoor Wi-Fi hotspot, as a result of a new partnership between T-Mobile, and BAA, the operator of the airport.

All passengers in Terminal 5 will be able to access the Internet via laptops, mobile phones or PDAs, allowing them to access numerous applications, including the popular travel application, Just the Flight Mobile.

T-Mobile worked in partnership with BAA to provide this Internet access zone that covers an area the size of around 50 football pitches.

Passengers that are T-Mobile users will have access to Wi-Fi services at all Heathrow Airport terminals. Those travellers who are not T-Mobile customers will be charged for access at Terminal 5, at a rate of £5 for one hour, or at £10 for up to 24 hours, which can be paid by credit card.

The head of commercial telecoms for BAA, Ian Denchfield, reported: “BAA has a long-standing relationship with T-Mobile, together consistently meeting passengers’ expectations to ensure up-to-the-minute technology for travellers. Seamless internet connectivity is an important part of our commitment to innovation and will form a key element in the future of travel.”

Twenty-seven million people are expected to pass through Terminal 5 yearly, and it is anticipated that the new Wi-Fi service will prove especially useful for those travelling on business.
