Heathrow tagged as world’s worst airport
Posted on: October 22nd, 2009 by Charlotte FellowsA survey conducted among members of Priority Pass, the leading global airport lounge programme has put Heathrow firmly at the bottom of the pile of favoured airports around the world.
The survey polled travelers who do a significant amount of travelling, with each participant having taken around 17 flights a year.
The beleaguered London airport was voted ‘worst airport of the year’ last year too, with the opening of terminal 5 last year beginning a long period of flight delays and lost luggage complaints. However, the airport has recently said that its punctuality figures have improved significantly this year, up 14% between the months of April and June when compared to the same period last year.
Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris suffered a similar fate, pegged only one spot higher than Heathrow. Los Angeles, Frankfurt and Miami airports made the rest of the names at the bottom of the pile.
To nobody’s surprise, Singapore’s Changi airport took the Best Airport in the World accolade, a result it has earned in several prestigious polls this year.
Changi Airport was followed closely by the Chep Lap Kok airport in Hong Kong, and the only European airport to make it to the top three was Schiphol airport in Amsterdam.
Jonathan French, the Head of Brand at Priority Pass has stressed that the people surveyed had taken about 250,000 flights between them over this last year, and that these seasoned travellers know exactly what they are talking about.
