Over 180 schools across Wales had to be shut down yesterday has the cold front continues to ravish the UK and surrounding areas. Wales was in chaos for most of yesterday as school and road closures left many stranded in their vehicles or homes.

The cold snap is expected to continue into today forcing most of the UK and Wales to shut down completely. The Met office forecasters are predicting that the sub-zero temperatures will continue into the weekend causing roads, railways, and mail deliveries to continue to remain out of service.
Yesterday, several Welsh motorists ended up trapped in their vehicles when the A470 had to be shut down completely after a lorry got stuck in six inches of snowfall outside of Merthyr. Several other minor car crashes from the miserable weather backed up junction 48 as well.

The AA announced yesterday that it had had one of it’s busiest road incident days in over 10 years, and by 3PM yesterday evening had sent out workers on over 16,000 callouts. Several flights at airports across the UK also had to be halted as poor visibility and harsh weather conditions grounded several flights.

The majority of school closures were in South Wales Valley, where the Royal Mail also incurred difficulty making deliveries. A spokesperson for the Royal Mail assured that they were working diligently to resume postal service by Christmas eve.

Several Brits are stranded in Brussels after Eurostar services were suspended in light of recent malfunctions during the cold weather. Spokespeople for Eurostar said that the Channel train operators are working hard to resume services which could come back online as early as today.
